The Catholic Retreat appears to have started in 1963, but the earliest patch I have seen is the undated round from 1964. The undated patch may have been used for both years, there may be a 1963 patch I have no image of, or the 1963 retreat could have used a neckerchief, slide, or some other alternative to a patch.

The large patches from feature the coat of arms of Baltimore Archbishop Lawrence Cardinal Shehan. Some of these were issued on neckerchiefs. “Omnium in Caritate”, translated “All Things in Charity”, was the Cardinal’s motto. Cardinal Shehan retired in 1974, and his coat of arms appears on patches from that year as well.

The earliest Protestant Retreat patch is from 1974, but the 1984 patch designates the tenth retreat. Either the Protestant Retreat was skipped somewhere in the 1975–1982 period, or the patches are in error, giving the anniversary rather than the number of the retreat. (That is, the tenth anniversary would be the eleventh retreat.)

Joint retreat patches were used several times beginning in 1975. While the first Protestant Retreat patch was made in 1974, I believe the Catholic and Protestant Retreats used the same patches from 1975 through 1983. Roman numerals on the large FDL of the 1983 patch mark the anniversaries of the Catholic (XXI) and Protestant (IX) retreats.

The wood slice slide was probably issued for one of the retreats in the early 1970s, but I have no idea of the year or the specific use.

The Jewish Retreat started in 1977; the 1981 patch designates the fifth retreat. I believe the same 1977 retreat patch was used for all three faiths that year.

The 1992 Catholic Retreat patch indicates the 30th retreat, which is consistent with most other items identifying the first retreat as having been in 1963. The 1993 patch indicates the 29th retreat, which is inconsistent with with the 1992 and earlier patches. If 1993 were the twenty-ninth retreat then either the first retreat would have been in 1965 or a retreats were skipped twice. I would welcome any information that would clarify the dating of the 1993 Catholic Retreat patch.
